Might have a story

A week ago I did a shoeing job for a pretty hard core barefooter. Didn’t ask her why, just did it. I knew she was headed to a 100 miler (Ozark 100) in southern Missouri and I didn’t ask, why shoes?

Anyway, the race was yesterday and you’ve most all seen on the news what Missouri weather has been like – tornadoes (as in the St Louis airport) and lots of rain. She really was looking for a completion as she’s returning to Australia this fall hoping to do the Quilty (their Tevis) and needed a 100 mile completion to qualify. She doesn’t do glue ons and in the weather there, I doubt slip ons would have stayed on. At any rate, I have word that she has her completion (she’s a tough lady) and lots of war stories to share when she get’s back. Only 9 started and only six finished. Winning time was 21 hours, about 8 hours slow. Apparently she has her rig out of ride camp (some people don’t) and is on her way back. I’ll let you know what she has to say.

Interesting, there were three basically Wyoming riders in it (one lives just into SD in the Black hills) and all three finished – 3rd, 4th, 5th.
