Founder help?
Hi, so I’ve posted one other time in a different section of this forum and was very pleased with all the help I got, so PLEASE help me out again!
On 4/24 my mare was lame, then she was fine the next day, then I did not see her again until 4/30, and she was lame from there on. On 5/5 the vet came out for a lameness exam, took x-rays, and on 5/9 he called us telling us she had chronic founder, 9 degree rotation in the front left, 2 degree in the front right. Now, this is my *first* horse, I am only 16, so I am not filled with knowledge on the subject. I have been constantly researching and posting on another forum website. I have also changed my mare’s diet to soaked hay, and Triple Crown Low Starch feed. The farrier came out to shoe on her 5/15 with natural balance shoes and some pads under the shoes. Some days she is lame, other days she is not. 2 days ago, for example, she was fine at the walk but lame at the trot. The next day she was fine at the walk, and just a liiiiiittle lame at the trot. Today, she was like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMQ6FEzyNnk
Now, I am just wondering if there is anything else I can do to speed up her recovery. And also to make sure she does not die. I was also wondering when she could go back to being worked (flat work only, I don’t do jumping). I’m NOT in any rush to ride her again, I just want to make sure she heals. (And doesn’t die!!) We are moving barns at the end of this month and I know that trailering is not good for laminitic horses, and I’ve read that they should be trailered backwards?? Is that true?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!
