Oppinions of alleviating issues of "Club Foot"
I have a 6yo Saddlebred, with what i would call a moderate club hoof. I will post some pictures this weekend. He has always ben shod with wedges. Recently i posted a concern with a crack that showed itself due to an imbalance from the previous farrier. the heels were also left WAYYY to long!!
My question now is, he was just reset! The new farrier believes in slowly trimming the heel on the club, and pulling the toe in on the dish. prior to the reset the angles were 55/46 left/right, he is now 52/48 without wedges. he suggested light light work for 2 weeks, basically just letting him and the muscles/tendons adjust to the change in angle. and gradually increas his workout, but not to ride for about 4-6weeks. his goal is to keep both hooves as close to 50 as possible without wedges and by “correctively shoeing” (term used loosly!).
I would love some oppinions on what farriers on here have done in there career to help this issue out! also mind you this horse is VERY VERY sensetive to angle change. he so far seems to be much more comfortable without the wedges.
On that note, in the saddlebred world i am getting yelled at to no end about letting this be done to my horse. Everyone around her preaches WEDGES WEDGES WEDGES for the most part. Also that what has just been done will cause him to blow his tendon!
Any takers on this?
Thanks to all
Matt
