"Hands on Glue on" Clinic

Central Georgia Equine Services in Fort Valley, GA will be hosting a “hands on glue on” farrier clinic on Saturday November 12th. Camp Thomas from Ocala will be the guest clinician. Equilox and Vettec are helping sponsor. We have planned a different sort of clinic that is focused on perfecting the technique of applying glue on applications in a reliable manner. In the morning we have a power point presentation followed by a cooperative lameness evaluation and live demo on a laminitic horse. We will have lunch and then each participant will be given a cadaver leg to prep and apply a glue on shoe. If anyone is interested in doing an anatomy dissection we can do that as well.
We are asking that everyone who is planning on coming RSVP by Nov 1st, as we need a fairly accurate count in order to get everyone a cadaver limb and materials needed to participate. We hope that each farrier will leave with applicable and useful ideas that can be put straight to work. If anyone from this site is interested in attending just shoot me a message, :D

contraction question

On a mature horse with superficial flexor contraction AND deep flexor contraction, would an inferior check ligament desmotomy ALONE, have any affect on the pastern angle? Or would this be counter productive, putting more strain on the SFT which may increase discomfort?

is a trimmer a farrier?

Does anyone consider a barefoot trimmer a farrier? I have nothing much against someone who does only trims, but to put farrier on a business card and then say they do trims is like calling one’s self a professional basketball player just because you learned how to dribble. To maintain quality control maybe we should be a bit more mindful in educating horse owners the difference. I picked up The Horse mag today and right there was a letter to the mag from some looney toon saying that science has proven that horseshoes lame more horses than anything else and that the mag should take a stand against shoes. With so many naive horse people out there absorbing this garbage should we just sit back and watch novice owners be endoctrinated with st@pidity? Are barefoot trimmers allowed to post here as farriers? I have never even paid attention.
