I have a new farrier. Third time shoeing I noticed that he put in and then pulled out again and replaced at least 6 nails. This is not a criticism but I haven’t seen this before. What would you think of this? I guess it worried me as he pricked my friend’s horse a month ago. Once he had a good alignment, he nailed it in confidently. He is a very experienced farrier but Iwould appreciate your opinions. I wondered about all the empty nail holes… can’t do the hoof much good? Horse seems ok. Thanks for any opinions.

This is the hind of my mare shod exactly 5 weeks ago. I was startled to see this hole in her hoof a few days ago. On the whole, the horse seems comfortable and well balanced. She does get arena abrasion but I haven’t ridden much since she was shod and only in the arena a couple of times. The other hind was just starting to go the same way. The shoes had squared off toes. Hot shoeing. Any comments please? Farrier not local so had to get another to reset the shoes. Sorry the links are so huge.
